Recently I watched this documentary on coded bias in AI and ML software. It has made me aware that representation of all layers of our society in tech is absolutely necessary.
I highly recommend seeing it, even if you’re not into tech.
Coded Bias uncovers that AI software is, unintentionally, reflecting our society’s inequalities and even reinforcing them. Leading to situations like:
- Face detection software unable to scan faces with deeper skin tones
- Recruitment software automatically discarding all resumes send in by women
- Facial recognition software have much higher misidentification rates for certain populations due to insufficient testing of all layers of society
